DD9HW2 Reflect on PR

After doing the Peer Review I realize I have a lot of work to do for my Project #2, but doing this also clear up some confusion I had for Project #2. What did you learn from reading and replying to your classmates’ drafts?  I need to find articles related to my topic and annotate them. Give a break summary about my topic. I need 3 to 5 of an annotated bibliography. After reviewing their drafts, what do you realize you need to revise in your own draft?  Better title.  Add some imagery  Explain more on my newsletter.  Find my sources and annotate them.  Fix some sentence structure and flow.  Better introductions to everything.

Play with Sentence Variety and Style

Public Health is apart of the medical field with the focus on the population as a whole. New Sentence: Public health goal in the medical field is to protect, promote, and prevent in the population. In order to understand the population dealing with sickness, diseases, outbreaks you have to understand why it is happening and measure the outbreak. New sentence: In the department of public health it involves sickness, diseases, and outbreaks but it is their job to understand why it happens and how to stop it. Measuring this actions with data can be the start of saving the problem. Data can range from graphs, tables, images, maps, and etc make up the visuals of public health. Data consist of graphs, tables, maps, and images, which can help the visual needed for public health to spread the information in a infographic. The new data information source is becoming very popular because it is appealing to the eye and get the point across so the reader can understand the f

Self-Review Full Bibliographic Citations

I'm very familiar with MLA format but something APA can be tricky for because I am use to MLA. I have to keep looking at guides to make sure I format it right. Along with citations especially if it comes from website. The library based sources are pretty easily to use since they cite it for you and you just copy and paste. The hardest part for me is not the citing, it is finding the right articles to fit for my topics and the right information.  Problems:  Citing a website and in text citation for a website.  Finding the perfect article for my Project #2.

Summarize Two Articles

What is Public Health?  In the article "What is Public Health?" it explains the real definition about Public Health. According to the article it explains the focus of public health and how it is not a clinical focus. Public Health associates work to improve, promote, and prevent, protect the population. Doctors work to cure the sick and help with the problem. Public Health is a step that can prevent or protect the population before they need to go to the doctors. The promote good lifestyles, eating habits, sleeping, and common things related to help to make sure you stay healthy. One major thing Public Health work is tracking and monitoring diseases and disease outbreaks. Dealing with outbreaks, they work side by side with CDC to report the finding out outbreaks so the world can be alerted and informed.  What is public health? Identify Key Ethical Issues

Being in the focus of the medical field there is also key ethnical issues because of health related topics. In homework DD7HW3, I talk about bar graphs, line graphs, tables, bar graphs and bar pyramids and explaining how it used in data research and analyzing it. There can also be errors when dealing with data like misleading, outliers, false answer, and etc.  Bar graphs: there could be no trend being seen or comparison. Could be hard to read the number of bar graph height. Estimating the numbers when reading the graph can through things off.  Line graphs: there could be outliers that could mess up the trends. Not plotting the data correctly like on the right axis can be an misleading graph.  Tables: can have to much numbers and information on the table to where someone can not analyze the information correctly.  Maps: can be heard to read and the information could be inaccurate. Measure the populations on graphs could be wrong to. Graphs: any time of graph can be hard to und

Identify Key Visualization Techniques

Image
In the medical field you have to analyze more then just information and facts. Looking at graphs, data, research is all part of the medical field. Visuals can be anything from graphs, maps, surveys or images. Types of graphics/visuals used in Public Health in articles: In order to produce the data they need to calculations like ratio, proportion, incidence proportion, incidence rate, prevalence, and mortality rates. Examples of Tables and graphs:  Tables are good ways to enter data from a survey and a way to see all the information up front. A small table and hold a lot of information and able to relate it into words.  A line graph is good to use when you want to see a trend or a shift in something over time. Line graphs are use to measure for the flow of things related to the topics.  Bar graphs are use to see the compare of things over a period of time and seeing the shift in change.  A bar pyramid is normally used to separate gender in comparison of the a po

DD7HW1 Citation Style

In the Public Health department or any medical department they normally use the American Medical Association (AMA) writing style and citation. Normally I use MLA or APA when writing papers for any classes but in my CPH 310 Health Policies class, my teacher exposed me to the AMA format and all the articles associated with the same format. I enjoy the format better because the citing is much easier than MLA and APA format.  It is important how to use AMA style of writing because most of the articles and journals are written in the format and they write a certain way to get the point across so readers can understand. Understanding the medical can make the matters of reading and writing much simpler.  Owl Purdue Online Writing Lab, gave a good example how to do in text citation and references in the writing simple.  https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/1017/01/ The AMA guide gave great examples on how cite anything for a journal article to an entire book or even just a

Complete a Tech Comm Journal Search

Searching in the Technical Communication, I found thousands of articles related to Public Health. It was hard to find something with visuals for public health because of the search engine are mostly for communication and technical writing. The first article I picked was " Using Visuals to Communicate Medicine Information to Patients with Low Literacy" I like this article because it shows picture and steps on how to take your medicine for those who can't read well.  Author: Ros Dowse  http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/104515950401500106 The second article I picked was " Communicating Health Risks with Visual Aids" I pick this articles because of prevention aspect of Public Health and the idea of a picture helping prevent something is powerful.  Author: Rocio Garcia-Retamero, Edward T Cokely  http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0963721413491570

Complete a Google Scholar Search

Using Google Scholar search tool, I was able to find thousands of articles, books, and scholarly articles using the words " visualization for public health"  The first article is " Digital Disease Detection - Harnessing the Web for Public Health Surveillance"  Explaining how the internet expand the idea of Public Health and the spread of information on the diseases.  Author: John S. Brownstein, Ph.D., Clark C. Freifeld, B.S., and Lawrence C. Complete a Library Database Search

Using the Library database search, I found over 16,000 articles related to the search  visualization for Public Health or visuals for Public Health.   My first article I selected was the " Community Health Map: A geospatial and multivariate data visualization tool for public health datasets" This documents help you analyze documents like graphs and data.  Author: Sopan, Awalin Journal: Government information quarterly ISSN: 0740-624X Date: 04/01/2012 My second article I selected was " Visual Ethnography: Bridging Anthropology and Public Health" This document is bringing a different view on culture and the medical field together to solve some health issues.  Author: Cremers, Anne Lia Journal: Practicing anthropology ISSN: 0888-4552 My last article I selected was " A Tool for Interactive Disease Outbreak Visualization, Detection, and Forecasting" The document shows you analyze data related to heal

Brainstorm about Graphics in Your Field

According to the Functions of Graphics the five benefits graphic can do that words can't do is demonstrating logical and numerical relations, communicate a spatial information, communicate steps in a process more effectively, can save space, and reduce the cost of documents intended for the international reader. All these facts are correct and strictly important in the medical field. In the medical there are many reports and data that needs to be presented and many use graphs, charts, images from the research and diagrams to analysis the research. The old saying a picture is worth a thousand words is very true. One graphic can explain a whole page worth of thing without wasting the time, breathe, and paper to say it. Being a public health major I had to learn how to analysis a graph or picture to save the answer or to understand what a question is asking for. Its a important feature in the medical field because it allows you to visually learn. I am also a visual learner so grap

DD6HW1 Chapter 6 Info about Your Field

What are the three largest or most important professional organizations in your field? (For example, if you are a construction management major, your field is construction management, civil engineering, or industrial engineering.) My major is Public Health which is a broad major because you can go in any direction related to the medical field.  - American Public Health Organization (APHO):   https://www.apha.org is a good website for Public Health majors and field works  because they provide update news about Public Health, continuing education, and information.  Professional Organizations: - World Health Organization (WHO): http://www.who.int/en/  - Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): https://www.cdc.gov  - United States Public Health Service: https://www.usphs.gov What are three important journals read by people in your field? - PubMed/NCBI/NIH: Doctors and professionals in the medical field post there research.  - A Publication of the American Publi

DD5HW4 Project #1

Reflection:  Project #1 allow me to learn about a new applications like Google Drawing and Google Forms that is beneficial to my school work. I wrote the documents to help college students and teachers who never heard of Google Forms. Google Drawing is a neat application that can help me edit pictures that I can use in presentation by editing, adding, and revising on the picture that can be helpful in a presentation. Google Forms is also beneficial because I create my own quizzes and test myself to prepare for a test. I highlight the how to create a quiz because creating a quiz is studying along with testing yourself is a good study tool.  Rhetorical Situation:  The purpose of the application Google Forms is an application to help users create different templates that they can use in the real world. For examples, quizzes, order forms, surveys and etc. are great tools for office places, students and teachers. The target audience I was focusing on is college students and teach

DD5HW2 Proofreading

Proofreading  When working on Project #1 was challenging because I had to think about the readers and make it understandable for all audiences. I had rewrite my instructions may times because I was to informal when writing or to confusing. What help me write the instructions was working the application like a begin and answer the questions as I go so I can cover everything when exploring the application. I had to stop assuming the audience knew what I was talking about and had experience like myself.  Another thing I learn from doing Project #1 was Google Drawing. I didn't know about this application until the project and its a great editing tool, which I'm glad I explored. I would use this tool more doing the school year when working with presentations along with my application Google Form. Using these tools open my door to more experience on the computer and different applications.  I also need to learn to slow down my writing and brain so they can work together.

DD5HW1 Emphasis

Focus on Emphasis for Project #1  While writing and revising my draft I learn my writing is style can be informal and sometimes don't make sense. Looking at the comments on my draft help me see the reader view. When I was revising it I had to make sure every step I did I wrote down so they can see what I see. I had to change my way a thinking by not assuming someone knows how do something no matter how small the task is. Using this technical made me more aware and add more details to my document. 1. One of the revision in my final project was adding options for different steps. Instead of assuming the reader already had a Gmail account or know how to work it, I made a options for those who did not have one along with users who did. I also added options on how to send the forms by giving them options to send it email, a link, Facebook, or Twitter and provide steps for those different options.  2. The second revision for my final project is adding more pictures so the re

DD4HW5 Plan Design Revisions

Plan Layout & Design Revisions  Proximity, alignment, repetition, & contrast  - Add different font and sizing to separate the notes, comments, and ideas compare to the instructions.  - No repetition. Chunking, queuing, & filtering  - Making sure the pictures and the steps are on the page so there no confusion.  - I need to make the important stuff in bold or underline.   - Fix some of my word choices.  - Proof read my work.  Page layout & columns  - Once I fix the steps and images I will make the appearance look more presentable.  Typography  - Using different fonts, sizing, headings, underline so the read can understand the importance of some certain things.  Titles & headings  - Rename some of the titles so it makes more sense.

DD4HW4 P#1 Usability

Usability  I conduct my usability with my best friend at my apartment around 9 pm tonight. She never used Google Forms or even heard about it so she was curious about the application.  As she started to read the questions she had a question about how to login and how to access it through her gmail. The first red flag show how important it was because she couldn't do the other steps. She was able to explore the different templates easily as the first part of the instructions. When she got to creating the quiz she had more questions about the application. She had questions about how the question and answer should look when she was done. When she done with creating the quiz she want to know how to share it the form with a link so we can copy and paste it somewhere, which was not in the instructions.  Learnability:  It was to understand but it need more details for more options on the application.  Efficiency: Once she understand what she was doing, it was pretty fast us

DD4HW3 Reflect on PR

Peer Review Reflections:  Doing the Peer Review help me understand what the project is asking for and how to make it better. Looking at other people projects and commenting help give more ideas for my projects. The two projects I review were good and going into the right direction to become great projects. Learning from reviewing to much detail is better than no detail, which can help the readers understand what they are getting from the instructions. I hope my suggestions and comments for the projects help make there project better.   Looking at the comments for my project I need to work on word choice for the directions. Making the directions clear and simple will help the reader. Along with adding more details on little features on the application.

DD4HW2

Peer View for Project #1  1. Brandon Bosiclair  I think it project #1 was very simple but needs more details for instructions. Maybe picking different features to explore on the application like adding notes, voice overs, how to present, or how to make your edit your presentation.  I would also zoom in on the images for the reader can understand what they are looking for.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/14hx6s_0vdhvdfTzdkDCskfDiLE3f5SIiihoAj3w4kiw/edit 2. Luis Arochi    The draft of project #1 is on a good start to the final project. The images are great and detail but the instructions need some work on. Unclear and confusing on some of the parts because he tried to cover everything in one part. If he breaks it down it would be more clear and understand.  He should also explain why the readers should Trello and what is Trello about before starting the instructions.  I would I would expand on the List and Card part so the readers can understand the importance of the

Writing Grammatically Correct Sentences and Choosing the Right Words and Phrases  I struggle the most with sentence structure and grammar, learning these rules and reviewing might help better my writing.  1. Usage of commas.  Comma are misused in sentences because of breaking up two independent clause by a comma, or not list correctly. Link words like and, or, nor, but, for, so, or, yet with a comma can help the flow of the sentence and the structure.  Ronane State Community College, gives a great guide how to use comma in all sentences, along with link words, and the Do's and Don't of using commas. https://www.roanestate.edu/owl/Commas.html The rule that help me understand commas if re-read the sentence and see if the sentence can stand alone or does it need a comma for it make sense.  2. Usage of a semicolon.  I never really learn the use of a semicolon, or understand that importance. I normally let spell check on the computer fix my mistakes. I felt it w

DD3HW2 P#2 Outline

Project 1 - Outline  Topic 1: Navigating Google Forms Looking through the different templates and discovering one best for your needs. DD2HW6 Researching Existing Instructions

I look up instructions on how to navigate and use the application of Google Forms and found some good instructions. I search on google and type out "instructions for Google Forms" and search through the links provided.  The one link that provide the most information and helpfulness was https://gsuite.google.com/learning-center/products/forms/get-started/. They show pictures on how to get the specific document I want to create and how to do it step by step. They even give examples on what type of format the questions should be for creating a quiz. The provide editing technicals along with sharing your documents with others. This website was good for helping some create quizzes and how to analyze your results from the quizzes.  There other website links for different documents like surveys and even a google about all information related to Google Forms.  https://support.google.com/docs/answer/87809?hl=en https://docs.google.com/document/d/15i1AamaA_47cI-9Wc9Rw_A-Tr7h6y

Analyze Examples of Instructions

For this assignment we have to analyze the the instructions for an application that we did not pick of our Project #1. I decided to to pick the application of Youtube because I am familiar with the application but never been a user for updating videos only watching. I thought it would be a cool application to learn for fun. I used the website https://support.google.com/youtube/?hl=en#topic=4355266 to look up instructions and a helpful tool. The first example of instructions is for how to subscribe to channels. Here the link for the instructions: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/4489286?hl=en&ref_topic=7293946 Reader's Expectations: The reader expectations is to be able to watch there favorite Youtubers, any video that interesting them, and be alerted when new videos are posted on the channel when they are subscribed. With the correct instructions they should be able to find the tools they need to subscribe to whatever channel they want with no problem. Different

Selecting a Digital Application for Project 1

Project 1 - Google Forms The application I decided for the Project #1 is Google Forms a presentation software. I never heard of this application or even know the application existed until I was playing with all of the applications. I think understanding the application and using it will help me in the future when I start my research in my field work. You can produce forms, surveys, worksheets, quizzes, and assessments for anything. Making blank quizzes could also benefit me during the school year as a study tool for myself. The reason why I choice this application because it benefit myself and also teachers looking for ways to be more effective with their time and tools.

Exercise 2:  Your word processor probably contains a number of templates for such applications as letters, memos, faxes, and résumés. Evaluate one of these templates. Is it clear and professional looking? Does it present a design that will be effective for all users or only for some? What changes would you make to the template to improve it? Write a memo to your instructor presenting your findings, and attach a copy of the template. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I decided to evaluate my resume in hoping to improve it. My resume is clear and professional looking. It has all the important elements on the resumes and key points. I think the present design is effective for all users but when I apply to certain job I edit my resume specifically for them. For example, temporary or summer jobs will not be on my resume only long term and beneficial jobs will be places on my resume. I would not changes to the template I would improve my word

DD1HW2 Introduction

Image
My name is Ashley White. I'm from Los Angeles, California and I just turn 21. I currently a junior hoping to be a senior after the summer session at the U of A. I am a Public Health major and I am taking this class because it is my major requirement.     My work space is normally my living room or the dining room in my apartment. I get most of my work done there. I have a desk in my room but that just collects paperwork and hold things. I could never focus in my room.  My desktop is a picture of my 13 year old niece, she my favorite person and my motivation. I have a lot of screenshots of important documents on my desktop.
