Chapter 1: Exercise 1


Form small groups and study the home page of your college or university’s website. Focus on three measures of excellence in technical communication: clarity, accessibility, and professional appearance. How effectively does the home page meet each of these measures of excellence? Be prepared to share your findings with the class.

The purpose of this memo is to review the page layout and writing style decisions from the University of Arizona.

According to the measures of excellence in technical communication, the University of Arizona website meets the requirements of clarity, accessibility, and professional appearance. For clarity the page highlights the accomplishments of the school. Being top 100 among the Top 100 in World, Reputation Ranking along with amazing hospital and law school. There goal is to get someone to explore there school and attend the University of Arizona. Based off appearance they are doing a great job by showing pictures of the school and all the relevant activity the university per takes in. For accessibility, its easy to navigate, they have apply, visit, virtual tour, girl and a search button to help people get the answers they want. 

Overall, I believe the home page meet each of these measures of excellence very effectively. The design is clean and easy to navigate around. There not unnecessary links or pages to find the appropriate information or to understand the website. I would send the link to anyone who is curious about the University of Arizona.

Writing Grammatically Correct Sentences and Choosing the Right Words and Phrases  I struggle the most with sentence structure and grammar, learning these rules and reviewing might help better my writing.  1. Usage of commas.  Comma are misused in sentences because of breaking up two independent clause by a comma, or not list correctly. Link words like and, or, nor, but, for, so, or, yet with a comma can help the flow of the sentence and the structure.  Ronane State Community College, gives a great guide how to use comma in all sentences, along with link words, and the Do's and Don't of using commas. https://www.roanestate.edu/owl/Commas.html The rule that help me understand commas if re-read the sentence and see if the sentence can stand alone or does it need a comma for it make sense.  2. DD10HW4 Chapter 18

4 element of Chapter 18 and how they will help better complete Project #3:  Tone  Making sure everything flows together since everyone has a different writing style when working together. Making it sound professional and presentable for the final project.  Research  Finding creditable sources and making sure the research correlates with the topic we are talking about.  Context  The overall information is correct and important to report.  Format  Making sure everyone is on the same page and we work together to make the final project great. Going over each other work and help others out.  Chapter 18 has a good template to start off with to guide us in the right direction.
